It is the 1750s, during the French and Indian War. Hawkeye, the Europe-raised son of a Mohican scout, rescues a group of Britons who are attacked by a Huron war party, and accompanies them to the British Fort William Henry. The fort, however, proves to be no safe haven; a combined force of French and Huron warriors takes the fort, and a surrender is negotiated. The French General Montcalm is willing to let the Britons leave the fort and return home, but his Huron ally is secretly planning to massacre the settlers as they retreat.
